Grit & Passion – What it Takes

Playing lacrosse isn’t just a game to me. It’s where I put everything I’ve got, every time I’m out there. It’s not just about skills or speed; it’s about having grit and playing with heart. You can’t go far in life without those two things. Yeah, talent is important, but it’s the mental toughness and love for the game that really make a difference.

Grit: The Drive to Keep Going

Grit is about pushing through, even when things get tough or you’re tired. It’s what gets me out of bed for early workouts and keeps me going when my legs feel like they’re done. In lacrosse, you have to be tough to get through the hits and grind of practice. You have to show up, day after day, no matter how sore or tired you are.

1. Facing Challenges Head-On

Every game and every practice has its challenges, whether it’s going up against bigger, stronger guys or trying to lock down a really skilled attackman. Lacrosse is a physical game, and it’s easy to feel outmatched sometimes. But grit is about standing up to those challenges and fighting through them. It’s about refusing to back down.

2. Always Working to Improve

Players with grit don’t just do the minimum; they’re putting in extra work on their own. I’m always trying to improve—whether it’s practicing ground balls, working on my speed, or doing extra reps of wall ball. Even when it’s hard, I know every minute I put in makes me a better player.

3. Staying Focused Under Pressure

Lacrosse can get intense, and you have to stay mentally tough. Grit helps me keep my head in the game even if we’re down or if something goes wrong. I’ve got to stay locked in and focused, especially when the game is on the line. It’s about pushing through and staying calm when everything feels like it’s going full-speed.

Heart: Playing Because You Love It

Heart is the reason I’m out there in the first place. Lacrosse isn’t just a sport; it’s a passion. I play because I love it, and I’d be out there every day if I could.

1. Playing for My Team

Playing with heart means giving it everything, not just for myself but for my teammates. When we’re on the field, we’re all in this together. Every ground ball, every play, it’s all for the guys around me. I want to be the teammate who has everyone’s back and puts the team first.

2. Building Brotherhood

The bonds we build as a team are huge. Lacrosse isn’t just a one-man show; we all rely on each other. When we’re practicing, grinding, and winning together, it feels like a family. The friendships and memories we make on the field are things I’ll remember long after the games are over.

3. Leaving It All Out There

Heart means giving 100% every time, no matter how I’m feeling. Whether it’s running sprints, diving for a loose ball, or playing through tough conditions, heart keeps me pushing. I want to know that when the game’s over, I gave everything I had. There’s no holding back in lacrosse.

Why Grit and Heart Matter Beyond the Game

The best thing about playing with grit and heart is that it’s not just about lacrosse. These are lessons I’ll take with me off the field, too. Working hard, pushing through, and staying focused no matter what—I know this mindset will help me in whatever I choose to do.

Putting It All Together

If you’re serious about lacrosse, or any sport, embrace your passion. Don’t just go through the motions; put in the work and make every play count. When you’re out there, give it everything you’ve got, because those are the moments that shape who you are, both as a player and as a person.

So, every time you step onto that field, bring all your grit, all your heart, and leave it all out there. That’s what makes lacrosse worth it.

From the backyard to D1, every rep counts.
